My weekend was full of safety pins.

On Saturday I spent a great deal of time pinning myself into my costumes for Amira Jamal’s student recital. Though both Nepenthe and I messed up parts of our duet it seemed to go over well, and I was fairly happy with my veil poi performance as well:

Today I laboriously pinned a number to my shirt before setting off on my first 5k run in nearly three years. Nick and I ran the shoreline 5k in Beverly while our spouses and kids took refuge from the rain in a nearby Dunkin Donuts. I have to say that while I don’t enjoy running in the rain, contemplating how wet I was did help distract from my normal running anxieties. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the run, and found Nick’s pace perfect – I didn’t tire myself out too quickly, and still finished the race in 30:15. Not bad for not running in forever!

Tomorrow it’s back to the normal grind. I already have an email from my advisor in my inbox, asking where I am and what my plans are for the week.
